i have a small w2k network w/8 w2k pro wkstns ans 1 w2k
server in an active directory tree. i'm having a problem
wgroup policy. whe a user logs into the wkstn the policy
does not get applied but yet when that user logs into the
w2k server it does get applied. the user object resides on
the server and belongs to a security group which is under
an OU. i downloaded the "gpresult" utility and found that
when the user logs into the wkstn, the gpresult utility
does not show the user belonging to any security
groups...where do i start to troubleshoot?

Check the event logs, especially the application log for userenv errors on
the client. Are the clients pointing to DNS where the resource records are
located?

Check the application log for errors from userenv. You may see errors here
if you are experiencing group policy problems. You should also verify that
the client is pointing to DNS servers that hold records for your 2000
domain. Post any errors that you find in the newsgroup.

I have he same problem and I get in the app log this:

Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. Return value (1722).

Most likely a DNS misconfiguration. Make sure DNS is configured correctly
on the domain members that are capable of receiving group policy.

this are the errors i'm getting in "userenv.log":

USERENV(460.3d4) 15:47:18:180 CheckUserInMachineForest:
MyGetDomainName failed with 1722.
USERENV(460.3d4) 15:47:18:180 CheckXForestLogon :
CheckUserInMachineForest failed with 1722
USERENV(d8.c0) 15:50:21:805 MyGetUserName: GetUserNameEx
failed with 1722.
USERENV(d8.c0) 15:50:22:414 MyGetUserName: GetUserNameEx
failed with 1722.
USERENV(d8.c0) 15:50:23:023 MyGetUserName: GetUserNameEx
failed with 1722.
USERENV(d8.c0) 15:50:23:633 MyGetUserName: GetUserNameEx
failed with 1722.

My first guess is that the machine getting the 1722 errors is not pointing
to a DNS server that contains the resource records for the domain.

I found the problem! It's working now!

The problem is:

The domain name exists in the internet and i use here but it has the same
name that is registered in our internet server.

When the clients tried to contact the domain.com they where going to the
outside server, so they could not aplly the policys!

Thanks
