These are stored in the registry probably - fire up ntregmon from
sysinternals.com and add one and see what you see. If it's a reg key then
you can easily make a custom adm file that adds them.
Personally, I think telling your users not to map drives to network shares
is a usability issue, but, thats just me. My Network Places sucks imho.

a.. Not preferences per se. There are seven or eight "Network Places" each
user much have. I want an easy way to deploy them.
b.. We'll be using Windows SharePoint services extensively. Therefore, we
won't be using drive mappings. You can access SharePoint sites, lists, etc.
through Network Places.
