I'm trying to put in a program exception in group policy for windows firewall
and I cannot get it to take the exception. Here is my syntax being used:
%ProgramFiles%/folder/progam.exe
<path>:<scope>:<status>:<name>
Nothing seems to work, I'm sure the problem is my syntax but I can't get
anyhing to work inside of group policy.

You might try posting in microsoft.public.windows.group_policy for more
specific help with this. Mention whether you're using AD, and to what OU
this GPO is linked.

I can't say that I have tried that myself but be sure to scroll down to the
bottom line of the description of the setting when you are trying to define
it as you also need to specify scope, etc and the description gives an
explicit example in the last line. Beyond that you may have a problem in
that Group Policy is not applying to the computer as expected. You can run
rsop.msc on an XP Pro computer to see what settings are being applied and by
what GPOs.
