do you have any ideas/opinions on my other post re: sfc question?

thanks.

Because the file isn't included with home.

I don't see a post on SFC. If it's the thread about HKey_Local_Machine then it's a post without context.

i have read an excellent article on this subject at :

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

as a result of this i copied my i386 folder to the root of drive c:\ so that
i can run sfc from the hdd instead of being prompted for the windows cd rom.

i have made all of the necessary registry changes and i have checked and
triple checked them. when i first ran sfc it worked fine, i.e no cd needed,
now i try to run it and it says "please insert the windows xp professional
cd". well for a start, i have xp home edition, and why does it now want the
cd when all the regisrty paths point to c:\???

is there another registry entry that is not mentioned in the article?

ahh, c:\i386 i take it?

i have also e mailed marc liron to as him for clarification on the site.

i have found that changing:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
\ServicePackSourcePath

to: C:\ ,

makes the problem go away and sfc completes without asking for the cd. i'm
not sure however if this is solving the problem or just covering it up.

The current version entry needs the full path

SFC does not use the CurrentVersion one. But it has always been full path there and I note the article is silent on what to put in this one.

But as SFC and Add/Remove programs don't seem to use it, it probably doesn't matter. It is probably there for programs that used to read the registry direct and expect to find it there.
