I tried both and much prefer UltraVNC. Response, in my experience at least,
was faster plus I don't like needing to go through a third-party server just
to connect to a remote PC.

They're not entirely interchangeable. GoToMyPC has one big advantage in
that it uses HTTP and works transparently through firewalls without port
forwarding, making it usable anywhere. The big disadvantage is cost. If
you don't need firewall transparency, VNC is a better option.
 
Someone recently turned me on to logmein.com and I tried it with my home
computer, seemed to work but I didn't really do much with it yet. My
understanding is that the advantage of logmein over gotomypc is that logmein
connects to their server so you don't need to know your home IP address,
which is benificial if your ISP uses dynamic IP addresses as mine does.
I've never used gotomypc so it may vary well work the same way, I don't
know. But logmein does have a free option, which is the one I used.

Just something else to think about,
