Hi, I want to move the database that I created on the Accesss2000 to MSDE
2000. I used the Database wizard utility to create a new MSDE database based
on the Access databas and got an error msg "Overflow" with further
information. Can someone help me out and tell me how I can get my Access DB
into a SQL database? Thanks, Alpha

MSDE is not really SQL Server. It is like a lite version. Your post
reinforces what I suspected. I had a similar idea in that I wanted to use
MSDE as an intermediate step to go from Jet to full blown SQL Server.
I had planned to use MSDE because our DBAs are -- well, they are DBAs. I
would not be allowed the flexibility I need to do experimentation, so I
thought I might use MSDE to get it stable then move it to full blown SQL
Server. But, I had to get the blessing of the Server gods to allow me to put
MSDE on an app server for testing purposes.
The short of it is I was told I would be allowed, but was also told horror
stories about other pioneers who had broken wagon axles and arrows in their
backs from trying to use MSDE. The consensus was it is not a reliable
product. It is, after all free, so what do you expect.
So, I have abandoned the idea.
Best of Luck to you.

Thank you for sharing your troubled past experience with me. I work for a
small company and there are no gods here. I have SQL 2000 and am using the
MSDE because I'm developing a small sidekick type of product to go with
another main product. The customers don't have SQL server and the input data
files are in Access so I started trying to use Access but got very frustrated
with the query especially after I've been using T-SQL. I'm thinking to use
MSDE becuase it's free and I can use SQL Tools like Query Analyzer to create
T-SQL and run on it.

I would like to try it anyway. I'm pretty frustrated with Accesss.

Thanks, Alpha
