Hum, it seems that the ball was dropped. Either there is a lack
of information or I missed something. I have the Nikon Coolscan
5000. Today I got "Profile Mechanic Scanner 1.0" from Digital
Light & Color (DLC) and the IT8 calibration kit.

I followed the directions from DLC, when into the Nikon Coolscan's
preferences and turned off the "Use Nikon Color Management
System", scanned in the IT8 slide and saved the profile to my hard
drive.

The question is, now what? I tried selecting the created profile
in the Color Management of preferences, but it says it isn't a
monitor profile, which of course it isn't. I looked in Photoshop
CS and cannot find any way of setting the source profile. What do
I do with this profile I created?

Turn of color management in NikonScan. Then, when you load the image in PS,
it will recognize that there is no imbedded profile in the image. You then
instruct PS to convert to the profile you just created and then convert to
your working profile.
