Right click toolbar...customize...drag it off.

You can't drag the Google toolbar.

However if you right click on the google toolbar itself, the bottom
option is "Hide Googlebar" Click that and it will disappear.

Trying to uninstall the googlebar is a whole new thing and I couldn't
manage it.

There is a site that explains how to do it,

http://users.bestweb.net/~doris/UnGooglebar/

but read all the instructions at least 3 time before you try it.

Good luck

The true "Google toolbar" didn't come pre-installed on mine -- only the
"search bar", which is set to default to google but includes other
search engines in a drop-down menu.

It's *that* one that you can drag off with customize. (If you've
installed the google toolbar, that's another beast entirely.)

You're right, a normal Firefox install does not have the Google
Toolbar pre-installed.

If it's the 'real' Google Toolbar, then the OP can hide it as
described, or simply uninstall the extension in Tools menu >
Extensions.

Ah thats true - my misunderstanding, I thought the OP was talking
about the Googlebar rather than the Search bar, but of course it is
only the Search bar that comes pre-installed.
