Google teases announcement at GDC next month - The tech giant is rumoured to be revealing details of a game streaming service

Google has been trying to break in to the video game market for years now. In 2014 they attempted to purchase Twitch, the live streaming video platform, but lost out to Amazon. Kotaku reported last year that Google were planning on launching a streaming service and some kind of gaming hardware, code-named Project Yeti.

If Google do end up releasing a gaming platform, it's probably one of the only companies that will be able to make a dent against MS (Xbox) and Sony (PS).

However, if it's just a steaming platform I can't imagine it taking off (famous last words?). People playing an FPS, racing game or similar will want a lag-free experience and any competitive edge possible - so streaming is a limiting factor. It would work well for Minecraft and non-competitive games, but client-side hardware is relatively cheap for games like this. It would need to be a fairly cheap subscription service to entice people to use it.

Perhaps they're trying to be a gaming version of Netflix.
 
If they launch a streaming service I'm sure they'd do a good job on the technical side, but let's hope it's not the mess that Google Plus was!
