Simply put, they (Microsoft and Google as well a bunch of third parties)
may maintain News server which subscribe & publishes posts within a
category (e.g. Microsoft.Public.Office.Access for instance), and they
have different rules in how they cache & archive the posts. Using a
newsreader, you can connect and thus archive as you like, etc.

Read a wikipedia article on NNTP for more information.

This is a "Usenet Newsgroup". Microsoft provides a NNTP (Usenet "bulletin
board") server named msnews.microsoft.com. The posts you are seeing are all on
this server.

There are many ways to post and read messages to this server. I use Agent
(www.forteinc.com) newsreader software and connect directly to
msnews.microsoft.com; the Microsoft web page also connects to this server; so
does Google Groups; so do a whole bunch of third-party aggregators.

You're just looking at the same heap of questions and answers through a
variety of different doors.

I only see the same starting question....the answers seen here are not
being seen at the microsoft site....unless it is just a matter of a
time delay and I haven't been patient enough...

It just strikes me as less than ideal that not all answers are being
seen at all sites....

-------------

I'm using OE pointed at msnews.microsoft.com, and have occasionally seen
replies that include quotations from posts that never appeared at my
end -- so perhaps I can confirm that not all posts are appearing on all
portals. Thinking myself somewhat of a realist (in an imperfect world),
I simply jump over to Google Groups on those occasions when I become
suspicious that I'm missing something relevant.

Every now and then the process that synchronizes Microsoft's web forums with
the newsgroups gets hung or glitched. I believe that is going on now, and
expect that soon they'll have it fixed.

There have been ongoing (for many months!) problems with the Microsoft webpage
losing synchronization with the NNTP servers (in both directions, Usenet posts
not appearing on the webpage and vice versa).

Microsoft is aware of the problem and - I truly hope! - they're taking it
seriously.
