What is it and do I need it? If I want to do a search I use the Google
online. Thanks Elaine (new user XP)

How about if you want to search your hard disk, and want something more
satisfying that Windows Search?

Thanks Ted, but I'm not sure I understand. Google online searches
general information and the Google Desktop searches my hard drive? How
is it more satisfying than Windows Search?

Why not go to Google and read up on it, and decide if you need it?

I did that before I posted but apparently I need to dig further rather
than ask for help here

Asking for HELP here would be along the line of "how do I
install XYZ when the program says I need...?"

You asked for an opinion... and that is what you received

Use the Google search to do a search for Google Desktop,
and then read the reviews that have been posted by users
and magazine writers

Would you rather get to the party in a Chevy or a Lexus? That's
basically what the difference is. Also, Google Desktop and its
competitors can do more types of searches and do them faster. Read up
about it on Google's website.

If you don't know what it is, you don't need it. It was pushed
onto your machine by Google and you didn't notice it. Can you
find the Help for it? That'll tell you more about it; it does
have some handy features.

Thank you for your reply Pop. I was finally able to track it down via
Dell support. Yes, I can see that it has some handy features. Mystery
solved. Thanks again!
