David

When I try to do a web search and type in
www.google.com
the address bar comes back with
http:///? www.google.com
and I get "Page cannot be displayed" on the screen.

Anybody got a clue as to what happened. I don't. I can't
do any searches at all. I can get to Yahoo, but when I
try to do a search I get the same "Page cannot be
displayed". I have emptied my cache, deleted all cookies,
run Norton Utilities, Norton Antivirus restarted my
machine and nothing seems to fix the problem.

Help!

Thank you

Please see the post in this forum for "Fix for some sites not reachable"

Also did you hear the joke about Mickey Mouse in the divorce courts.
.....
Mickey had just finished saying his reasons for Divorcing Mini Mouse to the
Judge.

The Judge replied...

"Mickey, you can't divorce Mini just because you think she's stupid."

Mickey replied...

"I didn't say she was stupid!.... I said she was f^%&^ing GOOFY!"

Thanks for the joke. Unfortunately, the repair wouldn't
take, so I reinstall IE6. That didn't work either. this
is starting to get on my nerves.
I hate Mal-ware to pieces.

Any other ideas?

I couldn't resist the joke after seeing the word goofy. It cracks me up.

Back to your problem...

If you can use a Registry Editor, go to the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl

There should be entries for " ", #, &, ?, +, and =. Check that these are
the only entries and that there are no other string substitutions that could
be changing your search string eg. something like "www.goog"="\?%20www.goog"

Also check the value under the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPref
ix

it should be "http://"

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks

Where there should be one entry for
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Alternatively to reset IE's search settings choose the 'Reset Web
Settings..' button on the Programs tab of the Internet Options control
panel.

To repair the default web prefix open the attached Registry data file
RepairDefaultPrefix.reg.
