Hi,

I am a user that likes to upgrade components over time. I currently have an
X2 cpu and will not upgrade till fall for something better, but I plan to
upgrade my video card in the next 6 months to a dx10 compatible one.

I am currently using winxp pro. I am not sure what are the benefits of media
center as I never used XP MCE. I am using a wireless network, sharing files
and stuff. Going 32 or 64 bits ... I have no idea what is better, I would
guess 64 is better and the newest but I have heard scary stories about XP64.
I never used a computer to access mine over the Internet and don't plant to
do it anytime soon. I mostly play Games, watch movies and not too much music.
That kind of things.

Thank you.

Check out your components and see if you can get 64bit drivers for all of
them...
If so...I'd definatly go with XP_64 rather than Vista.
If you are not sure you can get 64bit drivers for all your H/W...just stick
with XP_32.

What vista would be the best ?

Hi,

Based on what you've listed, I say Home Premium would be sufficient. You
can't upgrade from Pro (that'd require Business or Ultimate), but you can do
a custom install and use the Easy Transfer feature.

As to 32 vs 64, go with 32 unless you have some specific need for a feature
of 64-bit like > 4GB of installed memory. Presently, 32 is more compatible
with available hardware, though I suspect this will change in the coming
years.
