I came another reference to theses numbers and then had to dig to find the
source. All the sources other than Microsoft included derogatory comments
that I didn't fell were appropriate to post in this forum.

The significance of these numbers is that these infections were still found
in spite of what a knowledgeable user would have prevented and/or removed
with an other antimalware/anti-virus programs. That seems to indicate to me
that the uninformed user is a significant threat to the internet community.

Now if Microsoft could just kick it up another couple of notches...

The one I am remembering at the moment is

"On average, the tool removes at least one instance of malware from every
311 computers
it runs on."

And these are machines whose users are savvy enough to be running autoupdate
and patching their machines. Additionally--the bugs covered by this tool
are ReallyBad--not just the run-of-the mill viruses, but rootkits and
trojans.
