Can someone recommend a good notebook computer to run Linux on ? Is
pre-bundled the way to go (because of hw compatibility issues) ?

I'm sorry but you've posted your question in the wrong newsgroup. You
want a Linux group. Oh, and be smart and do some Googling for something
like "Linux + laptops" before you post. If you post the same way there
as you did here the responses you get will not be this polite.

Unless your have a question related to Windows XP,
you should post your question in one of the Linux
newsgroups.

Maybe you didn't get the memo ... ? The one about cross-OS virtual servers,
such as Apple will release later this year. And don't think it will end
there: eventually the OS will be commoditized ... and free.

What's the point of your hatred ?

You're a Rip Van Winkle ... and when you finally wake up everyone will
ignore you.

Your question asked where to find a Linux notebook, a Windows XP group isn't exactly the right place
to be asking that question. You didn't ask anything about virtual servers thats why you are getting
flammed.

C'mon man , wake up. All this pro- anti- MS nonsense is history. When the
dot bomb blew up half the MS haters quietly went to work for MS 'cause
that's all there was. Inside MS , the culture changed, in part due to this
migration. You see it more every day, MS open sourcing stuff, MIX06, etc.
Who's got the biggest Mac lab in the world ?

People who love hardware love hardware. What's tomshardware.com ? A bunch
of guys who hate Intel ? I don't think so. It's a bunch of guys who love
hardware and whoever's got the best stuff is going to get their blood
pumping the hardest.

The smartest guys try to get into the most cool stuff possible, 'cause
that's what keeps you excited about technology. You get caught up in a
military "must identify the enemy" mindset you're going to miss 95% of your
potential as a human being.

XP is cool. Linux is cool. OSX is cool. Vista is cool. It's all good if
you're just willing to look beyond what all the fools think and go for
what's real.

Peace.

Hope you get this MEMO!
Think yourself lucky you did get a polite reply.
There is no chance of Malke falling asleep, and there is certainly no chance
that they would ever be ignored.
But didn't you get this stupid question answered on the 12th, though I
didn't bother to read all the posts in that thread.
But then you have recently made a habit of posting OT stuff!
e.g.
'How well will Vista run on..........' on 14th.
Did you not think of asking in the Vista group?

How do you know it's a stupid question ? Have you performed a statistical
study of the computer buying population to determine (a) how many people are
interested in an answer to the question , (b) how many have only partial
information , (c) how many don't have the time to research the answer
themselves , (d) how many people answer lots of questions on matters they
are knowledgeable on and look to others for the same on topics they're not
knowledgeable ?

Just because you think it's a stupid question doesn't make it a stupid
question. In fact, personally, I don't think there are *any* stupid
questions.

I also don't think questions regarding OS compatibility , requirements , or
optimization vis a vis hardware are off topic for an XP hardware newsgroup
considering that the vast majority of software developers are currently on
XP or WS03 boxes and many are wondering if they could multi-boot other OS's
on those boxes, in the present or the future.

Most boxes today are manufactured for XP and given that time and money are
finite quantities, why is it so bothersome to you that people would be
interested in what their existing hardware can do for them , or if that
doesn't work , where they need to go instead.

Sure glad I don't work at a company full of people like you.
