I like Princeton and NEC.

Hi,

Size, brightness, contrast ratio, response time (the lower the better: 12
ms is decent for a 17"), connectivity to the graphics card, warranty, are
all good things to look at, and of course price. Go to Newegg.com and take a
look at their offerings. They also post their customer's reviews about the
product. Sometimes the posters make a good point. Sometimes they simply like
to rave about how quickly the monitor got there. One has to wiegh it all.
Bec considerate that when ordering an LCD they sometimes arrive with dead
pixels. Newegg doesn't like to deal with dead pixels so they throw it back
on the purchaser to contact the monitor maker. Other companies will readily
allow return.
Be aware that an LCD monitor has a native resolution and the other
resolutions will not be as sharp as that particular one. That's important
and takes getting used to in comparison to a CRT monitor.

I've bought three 17" Acer LCD monitors and one 19" from Newegg for our
school cause the specs were good and the prices were impressive. None
arrived with dead pixels. I've been using the 19" at home since January.
They all were definitely worth the money and have been doing a nice job.

I recently purchased a 19" Balance LCD Monitor from Wal-Mart for $299.00 plus tax. I have found only one stuck pixel (in the
very lower left corner of the screen) and I did not bother to return it as the monitor
has been working just great. And Wal-Mart has a 90 day return/refund policy too. So far I have been very impressed. It has both
regular VGA input and DVI input. And built in speakers ( I don't use them).
The monitor is bright and sharp. I have played a couple of games on it and they looked good. And so did
playing back a DVD. For the money and the ease of return, I think the Balance is a good deal. (for me)
Good luck.

Try looking thru http://www.tomshardware.com

I've got one of those Dell widescreens. It's really nice to have a lot of
extra screen space. It's very bright too. Try to get it on sale... 30% price
cuts sometimes.

I have found over the many years that the best monitor by far is
Viewsonic. But that was the CRT version.

What about the LCD version in 19", eg, the VG910s?

Hey, thanks all for the answers so far.
I'm from the Netherlands so i guess i'm not able to get a monitor at
newegg or at wal-mart :).
I'd like to hear all your experiences with such monitors. I will be sure
to look at all the things Jan Alter mentioned in his post.

I appreciate the time you all took to answer my post.
Hope more will follow :)

I notice that there are two basic kinds of LCD displays, one is 25 ms
and the other is 8 ms. The VG910s is 25 ms and it is rated for use
with games.

Why would anyone want 8 ms when it lowers color resolution
significantly as well as restricting viewing angle?
