The current version of Avast is using 99% of my cpu causing my system to
crawl. I dumped it and went to AVG.
any one else experiencing Avast problems?

Under what circumstances? A full scan of the hard drive?

Nope - I have Avast running on 3 machines:

Athlon 2000, 256MB RAM
Pentium-MMX 230MHz, 256MB RAM
Pentium-MMX 200MHz, <100MB RAM

All three run Avast far better than they ever ran AVG, the slower ones are
naturally affected when Avast is running a full scan, but otherwise Avast
uses far less system resources than AVG ever did on the same machines. Far
less problems too and much easier updates!

Possibly something else causing your issues??

Either you are a troll or you can't be bothered to set up Avast properly.

Well I can add that I am running both AVAST and AVG at the moment
( to evaluate which is the better )
AVG has just caught a virus on a newsgroup and offered the delete (I hope it
has !)
When I checked AVAST it had not registered the attack ?

Just my input to the debate.

Probably because AVG had caught it first - only one scanner can be first in
the line, even if you think they run simultaneously, so if AVG checks and
clears the virus first of course there will be nothing there for Avast to
detect!

No,.. Avast is smooth and normally does not boost your proc to 99%.
Perhaps check it's priority and set it to normal?

AVG is ok,.. no problem. But AVast is trustworthy, even on low
resources machines. But hey,.. you are right to use what you find
best. Fortunately, we do have a choice.

I'm using Avast on a Laptop with a 500Mhz processor and 128 MB RAM. No
problems at all.
