My coputer was not working properly so I wanted to
reformat and start over again. My compac computer came
with windows 98 but a computer tech upgraded me to windows
2000 a year ago and he did not leave me with any cds. He
is now out of business. So I used my two cd restore disks
for windows 98 that came with my computer. Well, now all
is messed up big time. Can you help me????? An AOL tech
told me I could do this so I did it but now another AOL
tech tells me that I can't go back to windows 98 after
being on windows 2000 as it has something to do with the
file system. He said I should first reformat my hard
drive and then retry to install windows 98. I dont know
how to reformat. It says I need a floppy disk boot and
my computer won't make one. Please help me get my
computer up and running again if you can. Thanks so
much. Kathy

To wipe the drive, some ways include; boot a win98 startup disk, run fdisk
and delete all partition information found (as long as NTFS is primary). Or
boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks and when you get to the point,
delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found, then abort the
install. Or use a utility named delpart. Once removed you can partition and
format the drive as you wish. Boot the Win98 CD-Rom or restore CD-Rom to
start your install.

¿Upgraded to W2k or installed W2k with the option of booting W98 or W2k?
If installed, your partition is FAT. And you may uninstall W2k and leave
W98.
If upgraded :"-( follow the directions of Dave Patrick

*CAUTION* *CAVEAT* *ATTENTION*
*be sure* your 2 CD restore disks *do include* the W98 kit. Compaq does not
always do such way: many times your W98 CD is at "\windows\options\cabs"
**ONLY**, and those CD include drivers, firmware, and such.
