i just bought this new computer and i don't like the new vista OS, its
difficult to understand and not working with a bunch of my programs. I'm
considering going back to windows XP, but i don't have the back up disk from
my old computer. Does anybody know who i could contact to get a real copy of
xp with license so i can reinstall in on my new computer? If anybody thinks i
shouldn't switch, please let me know, otherwise i rather use xp, it was alot
easier to understand and all my programs had no problem running.

You could approach the vendor and ask if you can have XP installed by them..

You might also want to go to the websites of the various programs that do
not work, and see if patches or new versions are being made available.. some
programs can be installed in compatibility mode..

Stick with it for another week and see if you can get to like it. Its not
difficult to understand, its only because things seem slightly different
that it appears hard. But essentially it is pretty much the same as XP.
Have a look around and don't be afraid to play with settings and get a feel
for it.
If some of your programs do not work, check the manufacturers website as
they may have released a patch for them.

If you do definitely want to go to XP you are going to have to buy it again.

If your programs don't work and it is going to cost you a bunch of money to
buy newer versions that will work, or do without, then go back. Mike's
suggestion of contacting the vendor to see if they will supply XP is best.
If not you may have to buy a copy. Check with the computer mfg to see if
there will be any driver problems going back to XP (especially portables).
You can always reinstall the copy of Vista later when you have replaced the
programs that don't work now.
