Going Back in Time

Recently, the system date and time on my computer seems to have malfunction.
Whenever I switch on the computer on a new day, the date and time goes back
to Sep 2004 12.00 am. I then reset it to the present date and time using the
Control Panel. The clock would run normally when the computer is on, and is
still correct when I switch it on again within the same day. However, the
next day, the same problem arises.

Appreciate any advice how this can be rectified.

Maybe you need a new battery.

Almost certainly you need to replace the battery on the motherbaord. That's
what's used to hold the BIOS settings (clock and other) while the computer
is powered off.

The battery is inexpensive and easy to replace.
