I'd like a quick way to navigate to a numbered Heading (as is outline numbered items, 2.5, 9.4, 6.0, etc) by using "Go To" (or CTRL+G) It appears the "Go To|Heading" feature brings me to the second, ninth and sixth headings, using my example, regardless of the Heading level number.
I realize using "View|Document Map" is a workaround or using "Find" then the text heading. But I'm looking for a different solution.
I don't believe you can use the out-of-the-box "Go To" to accomplish
this unless you want to Bookmark all of your numbered headings - at
least not without some macro programming. Perhaps you could post your
question in microsoft.public.word.vba.beginners.
If you do decide to go the Bookmark route, you cannot name them 2.5,
9.4, etc. but will have prefix each one with an alpha character and
substitute an underscore for the decimal, e.g. h2_5, h9_4, etc.
Have you considered using Outline view or inserting a Table of
Contents? Go to the beginning of your document then select
Insert->Index and Tables->Table of Contents. All levels you include
in the TOC are hyperlinked, so you can easily navigate the document.
Just use Ctrl+Home to return to the TOC. If "Home" is too far to go,
you could try using Format->Frames->Insert Table of Contents in Frame;
however, this will generate a pseudo web-page as a new document.
