Hi there,
I am running Outlook 2003.
Following the instructions provided in Outlook Help... I added the NEWS
option to the GO menu.
I then used this once... and as anticipated it took me to Outlook Express in
some kind of NEWS READER mode as opposed to the mode it is normally in when
starting it from the START menu.
This was good.

Now, I have since tried to repeat this but NEWS is no longer as option in
the GO menu. So I thought I would add it to that menu again... but now it
has gone entirely... it is now longer provided as GO option in the Customize
Menu bar window.

Obviously a bug.

Any idea how to correct it?

Thanks,

Jonathan

P.S. Please reply by email also as often I can not find my messages in the
newsgroup.
Thanks.

Rename outcmd.dat to outcmd.old. This will reset your Toolbars to the
default again.

Hi Roady,

By doing this will all my custom buttons on all toolbars be reset (I have
quite a few customisations on the STANDARD and ADVANCED toolbars) ??

Of does that outcmd.dat file just control the MENU toolbar?

Regards,

Jonathan

It will reset all toolbars -- customizations will be lost. FWIW, though,
the issue you describe seems to be cropping up for several people, and the
Outlook MVPs are trying to figure it out, so watch this newsgroup for
further developments.

Thanks Jocelyn...
Perhaps a fix will come out some time in the near future.

I've experienced exactly the same problem, after upgrading from Office XP,
then dropping "News" onto "Go". I tried resetting the Go menu, to no
effect, but cannot find the file outcmd.dat. Where is it located?

Thanks,
Keith MacDonald

It's a hidden file if you're using Windows 2000 or XP -- try searching for
hidden files and also enable searching in hidden and system folders.
(Note -- if you haven't made any toolbar customizations, the file may not
exist.)

Also, as mentioned in my reply to the other poster, the loss of the Go |
News command seems to be a problem many other Outlook 2003 users are
experiencing, and recreating outcmd.dat doesn't seem to help. We're looking
into the issue.
