After reading all the problems with Vista, ones that I, too am experiencing,
I am thinking I should go back to XP, simply because I could bumble my way
through. I can't even do anything without spending hours trying to figure
things out with this POS program. bad, bad, bad program and zits to those
who released it on an unsuspecting and nongeek public.

People who have problems with Vista tend to be very vocal about it.
I doubt that the percentage of Vista users having severe problems
is more than 2%. How can it be a "POS program" if 98% of its users
are happy with it? Could it be that the unhappy 2% failed to do
their homework, or have defective hardware or obsolete third party
programs or drivers (all of which are beyond Microsoft's control).

I didn't fail to do my homework and have been using
Vista for over a year- I am just quite underwhelmed by
Vista, and I'm certainly not feeling the "wow".

* Gary VanderMolen:

Not feeling the "wow" is quite different from being so
unhappy that (like the OP) one wants to go back to XP.

A thing I really disliked was Vista WU. WU in XP lets you pop open
descriptions of the updates, and gives links for further investigation.
In Vista, WU deprives you of the same opportunity to check out what
is being offered. "Trust us." Not after last year's WGAN update. And
for what? WindowsMail? IE7? I'm trying out Safari - XP or Vista:

Michael,

If you double-click the single line entry
of an update, it will pop up a description.

Too late at the moment, Michael - I was speaking as an ex-Vista user.
Thanks for the tip, though - keeping up the "ex" part isn't very likely.

I was one of the happy users you mention until the latest update broke
Internet Explorer I have a brand new laptop no third party software and I now
wish I'd bought a macbook
windows isn't cheap so it should just work

How could you possibly have been using Vista for a year, when it only came out
this year? Or, do you work for MS, and had their help in working out Vista
probs?

Lots of people who do not work for Microsoft have been testing beta versions
of Vista for well over a year.

Many of us were beta testers for Microsoft. Beta versions of Vista were
made available to technical testers as early as July 2005.
