It's 1000Mb. To me it's a repository of conversations and such.
Once in a while someone will ask, "Do you remember when I sent you
'whatever'? I can't seem to find it anyplace." And I'll have it right
there. Somewhere. :)

I grab incoming mail using pop3 and a local client, and have it
automagically sent to my GMail account as well. For normal reading, I
just use my client, but it's nice to have an easily searchable archive
which can be accessed from any 'net-connected machine. E.g., I don't
have to wait until I get home from work to find out the name of a book
a friend recommended to me three years ago and which I now want to buy
on the way home.

Here's what I love about GMail: Fast, threading, address
autocomplete(!), instant searches (hey it's Google!), flagging
threads, labels (a neat twist on folders).

OK badgolferman I'll add you to the queue - you're in the top 5. Don't
hold your breath though - invites come slowly.

I hateed webmail. I always used POP3 and SMTP. That or Hotmail with OE. But
I like GMail. It's now become my favorite e-mail account. I find the ads
often amusing and never in the way.

Hi »Q«,
how can I have my email automagically sent to my GMail account?
I'd be interested to do it, but I don't know how.

Email forwarding can usually be set up with your ISP. If they do, it's
usually done at their Member Services web site. Same place you would go
to add email accounts, change passwords, etc.

Alternatively, your email client may be set up to do it. With Outlook
Express, one would use a Message Rule to do this. No clue about how
you'd do it with 40tude.

I'm delighted to report that there is in fact a way: click "Show Original".
aha! thanks for that info...

now as far as getting some invites to send out to others... any tips
there? i haven't gotten any yet. :/~

That's what I do. My e-mail client (not freeware) has the option to
'redirect' e-mails; it just replaces the old To header with a new one
and sends it out. So I set up a rule to do that with all incoming
mail.

I just looked but don't see a way. (But my copy of Dialog is an old
one.) Maybe someone has written a script to do it.

How is that any different to using an e-mail client's "Search" function?

What happens if your ISP goes down for a few hours, and you urgently
need info from an e-mail? Nope, I'll stick with POP3 mail, thanks.
Having to depend on *TWO* third parties (my ISP and Gmail) to have
access to my e-mail is just asking for trouble.
