Gmail forcing verification by mobile phone

Using Windows XP and the usual. I have had a Gmail account for several
years but now, each time I try to logon, I am told I have to verify my
account by giving them a mobile phone number to contact me. I do not have a
mobile phone. I have tried dozens of Gmail blogs, sites, etc. but each one
requires me to logon to open them and I cannot log on without giving them a
mobile number. Would some PLEASE give me information or a site to contact
so I may open my Gmail?

Contact GMail support, of course, or Google for a GMail forum. They do
exist.
