Word 2007

All the users in our company have the "Firm Template" attached as an
add in. One user frequently "loses" the Firm Template - she must go
into Word Options/Add Ins/Manage Templates and re-check the Firm
Template box. What are some causes of the box coming unchecked by
itself?

Thank you for any suggestions.

It sounds as though she has a Word Startup location defined that is not the
one containing the add-in. You can install add-ins from anywhere, but they
won't be active by default unless they are in the startup folder. Minor
corruption of the Word data key in the registry could cause it to lose the
location.

If all else fails you could add auto running macros to her normal template
to check the add-in.

Thank you for your quick response. I should have added that the user
does not lose the add-in after a log-off or shut down. The loss
occurs during the course of the work day. In other words, she signs
on in the morning and has use of the template. Sometime during the
course of that same active session, the add-in is lost. "Something"
is triggering the add-in to be disconnected. Thank you again for your
help.

It is impossible from this distance to suggest why she is losing the
template (though the data key and interference from other add-ins are
favourite), but if it is becoming unchecked the following line added to both
an autoopen and an autonew macro in the normal template will ensure that it
is checked for each new document and each document opened.

AddIns("D:\Path\filename.dotm").Installed = True

change the path and the name of the add-in template as appropriate.
