Global setting to prevent Winword as outlook editor

Is there any way to disable word as the default mail editor on the
"machine" level, as opposed to the profile (user) level?

We have a Citrix server and the constant outlook usage by all of the
users provokes multiple winword.exe processes that just hog way too
much memory. Is there a way to prevent this without going into every
single profile and disabling it???

Please tell me there is. If not, then MS hasn't thought far enough
into the fact that their products may be used on an application server
and thought about the potential memory issues.

Please let me know anything you know about this.

fyi.. I know where the registry key is for this particular setting in
the hkey_current_user node. Unfortunately that doesn't solve my
problem. I need it on the global or machine level. Thanks.

You can disable Word as the editor via system policy. The .adm files for
Office are available in the Core Tools download from the Office Resource
Kit.

Which version of Office are you using?

Thanks,

I'm using Office XP Professional. I also have a machine running 2003
professional and I downloaded the Office resource kit. There are no
ADM files in it. I installed the outlook security tools, and there's
only an OFT template for security. Am I missing something there?

If I get the XP ORK will the adm be there?

Thanks for the reply.

Matthew,

The .adm files are in the core tools download. Here's the link.

Hope this helps.
