Hello Everyone,

I have an Outlook 2003 user profile in chached mode. When a new user is added to the GAL it takes up to two days before it's shown in the users' GAL.

When I untick the Chached Mode in the users' profile, and then start Outlook 2003 the new user is shows in the GAL!

In Outlook 2002, the user is shown directly!

Who can help me out with this strange problem?? Is there a setting on my Exchange 2003 server wrong ?

Thanks!

Dirk

Dirk,

This is the way things work in the Cached mode world.

1. If you add a new user to the GAL, that user won't be in the Offline
Address List on the Exchange server until 4:00 am the next morning (default
setting). So, even if you manually force a download of the OAB on the client
you won't see that new user in Outlook Cached mode because the user is not
in the OAL (yet).
2. You can manually rebuild the OAL on the server to more quickly make that
user appear in the OAL. So, if this is done, you can then manually download
the OAB on the Cached mode client. This should update the client to show the
new user.
3. If you don't manually download the OAB on the Cached mode client, Outlook
doesn't automatically pull down the updated OAL until it hits a 24 hour
cycle (started when you first launch Outlook). So, if you leave Outlook
always running then the 24 hour cycle rule might mean you won't get the
updated OAL right away. The only way to make sure you have the latest OAL is
to force a manual download of the OAB (Tools - Send/Receive - Download
Address Book).

Please see the following article for additional details.

Hope this helps.
