I was trying to pull a picture out of Word onto my
desktop and there was a long delay. Then a glitch and my
desktop icons went blury, and they now have solid
backgrounds to them instead of just the smooth image. The
desktop in and of itself it just very unsmooth. When you
click and drag things there is a black background where
its been dragged.

Anybody else have this problem? I have seen this happen
before but no fixes.

Things to try:

Find out the manufacturer of your Video Card. Go to their web site and
download the latest video card driver for Windows XP. Install this and
reboot. Change the resolution/color settings to suite your needs and see if
that helps.

For the icon background, do this: Open Control Panel and then open the
"System" control panel application. Click on the "Advanced" tab and click
on the "Settings" button under the "Performance" area. Scroll to the bottom
of the list under the "Visual Effects" tab and make sure the "Use drop
shadows for icon labels on the desktop" box is checked. If it is, uncheck..
Click OK. Go back there, chekc it and click OK again. Then click OK to
close the original open window.
