Giving permission to user folder

Windows 2000 server, most have w2k computers, a couple
with winxp computers.
I have a Users folder for all the users. U:\username.

One manager wants permission to her assistant's U folder.
I go into the server and right click on the assistant's U
folder, choose Properties | Security, and add the
manager's name onto the list with modify rights.

I then give the manager a shortcut on the desktop to the
assistant's U folder. The manager can get into the folder
just fine.

However, the next day, the manager is unable to get into
that folder. I check the permissions on that folder and
the manager's username is not there anymore. I again re-
set the permissions...and a day or so later, the manager's
username is again gone from the permissions list of the
assistant's U folder.

I have other U folders that I have given permission to
other users and they don't have this problem.

What is going on here?

Thanks.

My guess is that the assistant or someone who has the right to change permissions to
that folder is removing that user from the folder. You could try enabling auditing of
object access on that computer and then auditing that folder for change permissions
to see what is going on. You will have a lot of events to sift through however in the
security log in Event Viewer and will need to increase the size of it quite a
it. --- Steve
