Can anyone comment on how the Gimp (on WinXP) compares to other free
photo editing applications like Pixia or Rahman Imager Basic.

I am wary of code ported to Windows because some apps don't always
install & work as smoothly as they could do. (eg Cygwin)

use pixia, the gimp feels old and it is a pain to use

Pixia is much more unstable - I tried it for while and in it often
crashed...
GIMP is much more more difficult to handle. If the probelm is the look, try
the new version, and the new gtk, which use exactly the same look&feel of
your actual win theme. (I tried, it's greate)

If you're looking for a free software with the same power (and difficulty)
of Photoshop, GIMP is the choice.
If you need an "advanced Paint with layers & filters", consider Pixia (hey,
I'm not saying it sucks, it is just easier :) )

Or you could try Photoplus 5.5 (last freeware version), if you want to try
another "advanced Paint with layers & filters"
