That's what it says, printed on the motherboard, like they're
proud of it.

Our "greed is good, jobs Americans won't do" manufacturers and
ruling class puppet politicians might be able to completely
destroy our technology capability, but not with my business (as
long as I have some choice in the matter).

Our politicians talk about nation crippling cyber threats from
communist China, while they promote outsourcing and hiring H1B
visa high-tech workers. I wouldn't be surprised if communist China
sends a Statue of Liberty style (Trojan horse) gift to us, and our
politicians swoon all over it while it kills us.

What we need are union built motherboards. Then we can go back to the
days of base computers costing $5,000.

What we also need is another war. George Bush was a hero for starting
the 2003 Iraq invasion. After all Iraq was the perpetrator behind 9/11.
Also, the Bible clearly states that Israel must be protected at all
costs. God's chosen people are truly blessed and if you're not willing
to die for them then you're Godless.

Required by US law since the 70's when Japanese imports were the big
threat.

Designed in Taipei, is actually good. At least compared to some
of the worst (small) Chinese motherboard makers. Like the ones
that used to make carbon copies of other companies designs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan

"The political and legal statuses of Taiwan are contentious issues.
The People's Republic of China (PRC) claims that the Republic of China
government is illegitimate, referring to it as the "Taiwan Authority".
The ROC, however, with its own constitution, independently elected
president and armed forces, continues to view itself as a sovereign state.
The present territory of the state has never been controlled by the PRC."

That article makes it hard to understand the politics, but there's
a slight separation between the two.

I think at one point, what might have happened, is companies in Taiwan,
set up factories in China, to reduce labor costs. "Designed in Taipei"
is intended to indicate that the manufacturing may be in mainland
China, but the actual design is in Taiwan. At one time, the whole
thing would have been done in Taiwan, except that Chinese factories
could make stuff for less, so the companies then started designing
in Taiwan and manufacturing in China. A lot like Apple, in a way.
If the Taiwanese hadn't done that, their prices would have been
undercut by pure Chinese operations.

Used to? Is that something you read on wikishit? It's a trend,
it's not something that's over. And it serves them right.

What Gigabyte's proud of are the Japanese components specially
designed on equipment for rating their MBs at higher specifications,
33% MTBF, than average. Redundant sets of BIOS chips. Higher
tolerance input filters for series, slam-dunked surges or dubious PS
units. It goes on, surely, but I threw the cardboard box in the
garbage, alas, just the other night. What's interesting is MSI at
this juncture also has taken a similar tack, apparently skipping
further formalities to label their boards within Military Compliance.
Shot it with a 45 magnum, the most powerful handgun known, punk, if
you feel lucky. No doubt great ad copy for cardboard, as well.
They're both nevertheless among the few remaining long-term players,
neither which likely advanced into the top rankings of a premier world
MB providers, Asus has in sheer terms of quantity, which is why
there's an aspect, nonetheless, of experience by dint time lends. Not
much else, really, for hardtack in monetary considerations either can
charge with alternative sources, Biostar, ARock, or what else the
Seven Tigers of the Pacific Rim customarily provide. Personally, I've
been hearing good talk about Gigabyte for a long time. MSI, neither,
would be notably a bad experience I'd care to interject. If I still
trusted Newegg's used or returned but certified gear, though, or if
they offered anything seriously worth consideration in that
department, other than an headache, I'd might, remotely, conceivably,
be buying $200 Asus MBs for a nickel on the dollar. But, that's in
lieu of hearing Asus rumors from people employed within, albeit dated
and very, though with enough reason now to consider how severe effects
might turn when functional MB components partially fault during a
process of substandard operations, as they did with my last ASUS MB.
Also saw a press release, from Gigabyte around about then, citing Asus
for knowingly putting in substandard MPU support capacitors.
Percentages, hand grenades and horseshoes, or a bunch of damn liars.
You choose. Worst among my three experiences -- a) blowing memory
chips due to brown/blackouts outs when memory cost an arm and leg, b)
RF radiation out of a PS or noise on the bus into a tape unit, c) and
that Asus MB, I couldn't any more say with certainty power capacitors
entirely comprised whatever in ****'s name Asus problems entail.
Eating perfectly beautiful and adorable power supplies, for starters,
for the hell of it, well, I'm certain we can agree it's just so mean
that it's just plain un-American.

Very interesting post, Flash. I've got one of those new super-duper
Gigabyte boards, extremely fast with a 3.6 quad processor and fast DDR3.
BUT --- it will not reboot when an installer wants it to. I can reboot
if I select 'restart' from the shutdown menu. I can reboot when an
installer says 'reboot now' or 'reboot later'. But installing Windows 8
(an upgrade install from Win 7 Ult), about the second panel in after
it's checked for updates, the installer says "Your system will now
reboot..." The Windows 8 installer panel closes but my computer doesn't
reboot. The Windows 8 installer then proceeds as though the reboot had
happened, and, of course, fails because it cannot find those things that
it should have written to disk but didn't.
This is a weird fault. Nothing in BIOS addresses it.
I didn't notice it when I upgraded from XP to W7, for that is a clean
install with no reboots.

Sounds more like Romney - the pioneer of off-shoring.

So why has Intel been making 75% of its investments in the US, and
why are so many "Made in Malaysia" Intel CPUs actually made in the
US (Oregon or Arizona)?

As for the "Designed in Taipei" label on Gigabyte mobos, I've seen that
on MSI mobos, too, and apparently it's for marketing purposes in China,
where Taiwan products are considered better but the Chinese government
doesn't like labels to mention Taiwan.

Of course the BIOS wouldn't address it. The BIOS is contracted by the
motherboard manufacturer, the former provides a BIOS chip based on the
manufacturer's board specifications and intent for writing or fine
tuning BIOS chips at the engineering level and prior to board
production runs. The whole process and not only BIOS is to met
standardization levels with hardware and driver support for general
industry compliance...Windows or a Unix should expect as much, that
certain calls to the MB are to be reciprocated. But, yes, I know what
-it- is when going through what you're describing. You need to be
able to time it with an override method at the point when indicated
the drivers are installed and to reboot, a method other than the
installer which you initiate. Cntl-Alt-Del or the Start button along
the XP route. I sometimes keep binary OS backups for more stages of
an OS software build, during which case a critical juncture gets
bungled that I especially wanted to go smooth as silk. Perhaps a
software process application monitor setup first for manually
identifying terminating the installer if need be. Then there are some
driver installation routines, and, then again, there are some driver
installation routines in a class of themselves.

Pure speculation, justification for putting its fellow countrymen
out of work, so its greedy self can save a few pennies...

I tried something like that. What the installer actually says is that
"when you click on 'next' the systems will reboot"...
So instead of clicking on 'next' I manually rebooted via shutdown. But
the installer does not restart at the point where it left off because it
has not done something that it would have done had it rebooted itself.
So Windows does not know it's in the middle of a procedure, and if you
restart the install it goes back to the beginning. Very frustrating.
I sometimes keep binary OS backups for more stages of

bungled that I especially wanted to go smooth as silk. Perhaps a

I think that's beyond my pay level. I'll have to live with Win7 and
give Win8 a miss. But it is a weird problem and I haven't found anyone
else who suffers from it.

Very frustrating.

OK - pulled and got my espresso. Wasn't rightly reading you before,
old chap, and needed that slap in the face. I'm all better now,
primed: Windows 7 utilities to an addition, ported by Microsoft Corp.,
through and onto a full Windows 8 upgrade. Sounds major, dude, but
I'm with you in theory.
I think that's beyond my pay level. I'll have to live with Win7 and

If we're to read you literally, that set of potential exclusions to
have included your MB, would not be a logical inclusion of all or most
of some other owners of the very same model Gigabyte. However
unlikely that may sound. What may, however, sound better is a certain
tradition found in Microsoft mannerisms. One which I've certainly
found never too distant to be a constant reminder of fastidiousness.
Two cold boots from the switch at the back of the power supply, by way
of an XP example, when attempting to replace or removing trace
software drivers and registry affinities.

First, though, allow me. . .partitioning two primary partitions one,
need be hardly sized over a token for 98DOS, for other, the Microsoft
drives, is actually quite a simple concept to construct. Bearing in
mind provided the proper tools...

Ghost and Smart Boot Manager 3.7.1

Add a disk partitioning program directory (everything goes on the
token C:-DOS primary partition) for hiding that partition (i.e.,
booting from a flashstick or, better, Hiren's CD) only during the W7
or 8 installs (for good precautionary measures). I'll also have to go
on a presumptive likelihood these later Microsoft disk sector
incarnations are within reach of a binary restorative methods
provided. Over two drives on my S478 Pentium4 3Ghz, I can stream a
binary Ghost image for restoring a prior OS install, and/or OS state,
at a 850Mbytes sized image, (compressed by roughly 75% for around
1.25Gbytes functional file structuring, within a 45-second framework
to completion time.

An invaluable asset to problematic OS installs when considering their
approach to completely starting anew if a purchase can first be gained
at some point past that. Where I'd personally care to be to attempt
that feat is from an approved tradition alluded as particular to
Microsoft. Install W7 clean, squeaky, (optionally Ghost), and begin
from there on 8, (optionally Ghosting as you see fit).

A perpetually gibberish-speaking Gigabyte fan boy...

Excuse me, but do correct me if you're bit attempting to impugn my
first Gbyte, I've only ported over off another XP install, cleaned to
a hint of residual polish beneath, all for luck of fanatic
presumptions, to allusions on hope's stump, in perpetuity, intended to
grind salt in a great, gaping wound life tenuously thinks worth
clinging so to exist?

George Bush Junior also helped ship 8 million jobs to communist

China slave labor factories. But this Luddite doesn't care about

putting its fellow countrymen out of work, as long as it saves a

few pennies when it goes to the store.

There was a similar debate back in the 19th century and if I recall the Black-American Booker T. Washington advocated tariffs against Chinese importedpeanuts, arguing they were grown with cheap serf or near-slave labour. Today, you could plausibly claim that Chinese manufactured goods produce excess CO2 and contribute to global warming, and therefore warrant a tariff, but unfortunately I've not seen anybody make this half-way intelligent argument, probably because the US itself is against greenhouse gas abatement.
