Gigabyte GN-WIAG01 built in wireless won't install

When I first tried to do an "Upgrade install", Vista claimed the only problem
was the AC97 sound card. But then it failed with a message about a required
driver could not be found. Out of frustration, I did a clean install. All was
fine except the wireless adapter, the modem, and an unknown device. When I
plugged in my ethernet (wired), it found and installed a driver for the
wireless, but it did not work after a reboot. I tried installing the Windows
XP driver, but had no luck. The orange light that indicates the wireless
radio is functioning never comes on. I have tried switching the manual radio
switch, no luck. The device manager indicates that all is fine :-(

The notebook is a PowerPro CL-56 mobile pentium with 1 gb RAM, ATI video.
Other than the wireless, all is fine as I don't need the modem. I would like
some better touch-pad drivers though.

You need Vista drivers for you hardware. You need to
contact the vendor of your hardware since they are the ones
responsible for the drivers, not Microsoft. Microsoft only
supplies drivers that have been supplied to them, they don't
write them.

Theo,
I contacted the laptop vendor, PowerNotebooks.com, who rudely told me that
my 1 year old notebook was discontinued, and that they would not be
supporting it, and not only that, they don't support any operating systems
that are not released yet.
So, I am having real problems finding a working driver. Is there a place to
search for beta Vista drivers?

Unfortunately the manufacturer or vendor of the hardware is
the source for any drivers, beta or final. Your only other
source might be the manufacturer of the particular chip,
however since this appears to be a pci card, the driver
needed may require both the wireless chip drivers and pci
card drivers.

You are experiencing exactly the same type of support and
response as it was with Win x64 - and Win 95, and Win ME,
and Win NT, and so on and so on. Virtually none of the
hardware manufacturers or vendors are commit to drivers
until Vista is Released To Manufacturer (RTM), which means
the DVDs of final version of Vista are being pressed at a
DVD manufacturing facility. That is the way it always has
been with new operating systems, and probably always will be.

Theo,
I have beta tested since DOS 5.0 and know the drill. This particular
manufacturer advertises themselves as specializing for people who want to get
a laptop withOUT an O/S so they can roll their own. I was very put off by
their response. I would have just shrugged had it been a more traditional
vendor. Unfortunately, I am still not aware of a good place to search for
these drivers. The laptop is not that old, and the chipset for the built in
wireless does not sound all that uncommon. The one MS tried to install a
first worked until the reboot...

Have you seen the wireless? My Dell came with an Intel wireless card
attached in the bottom with an access door. All I had to do was go to Intel
for the drivers in XP, maybe yours is something similar.

Well, I talked to Gigabyte and they said that there were no drivers for Vista.
Do you or anybody else have a recommendation for a good PCMCIA Wireless G or
G enhanced that runs well with Vista? I want to resolve this already. The usb
adapter I tried works, but the range is not nearly as good as the built in
one was with XP.
