Just wondering if anyone has used this motherboard and if so what the
experience has been. Also, what memory have you succesfully used with the
board. Thanks.

Howard

I am running the GA-8KNXP Ultra version of subject Board.
The memory I am using is: Corsair TWINX1024-3200LLPT 1GB DDR400 XMS3200
Ultra Low Latency Dual-Channel Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader

I built my system on July 4, 2003 and it has been perfectly stable from
first boot.

I have not had one BSOD!

I'm using it with Crucial PC2700 RAM. At the time I built my current
machine, I couldn't obtain the 400FSB CPU.

The system has been very solid. I didn't like the on-board sound card, which
I couldn't pursuade to work on all five+1 channels at once! So I disabled
that in the BIOS and now use an Audigy 2, which works very well.

I'm using the ITE RAID option with two Maxtor hard drives, and it works very
well too, although (a) it was not too easy to install and (b) the RAID speed
(RAID 0) is not quite as fast as it should be.

I was very impressed with the amount of stuff in the box when it arrived -
lots of connectors etc. The quality of construction of the board itself is
very good.

Take care,

John.

Incidentally, if you go to the alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.gigabyte
newsgroup, you can read dozens of messages about this board.

Hmm, I tried subscribing to that gigabyte usegroup you mentioned but I get a
message that it doesn't exist. Would you mind checking the address for me to
see if it is correct as it was typed in your podt. Thanks.

It's definitely

alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.gigabyte

I suppose it is possible that your ISP doesn't carry it.

You can read the messages in google groups, though...

go to http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_group_search?hl=en and cut and paste
the name of the newsgroup into the "Return only messages from the newsgroup"
box. Then click Google search.

Take care,

John.

If you will pardon a novice's question . . . : What's a 'BSOD'?

My experience is similar to sig666. I assembled this system in mid-June
with 2gb (2 matched pairs) of Kingston KVR400X64C3AK2/1G (one pair
originally and another added in late July) and also haven't had the first
BSOD or other malfunction to report. I do not have the DPS2 daughterboard
installed because my Zalman CPU HSF wouldn't clear the DPS2 fan. The system
is not overclocked.

There is some indication that some types of RAM may not work, so you may
want to install RAM known to work. I can vouch for the Kingston model I'm
using, and sig666 has had success with his Corsair. I have never had a
Crucial module fail, so I'm sure it would work too. Using matched pairs
will assure dual-channel-mode operation.

The ITE RAID controller is reported to be very slow, so you may want to add
a PCI card (Highpoint or Promise) is you want PATA RAID capability. I
haven't tried mine with SATA drives. You might want to watch the Gigabyte
BB's for more specific input.
