For the passed several days this application has been run
every couple of minutes on my XP PC that is using the
BETA Anti-spyware software from Microsoft. It was not
running previously and I have never loaded it separately.
It is causing a noticable performance degradation
especially when playing games such as Microsoft Links
golf. Why would this only start running now after months
of using the software and how do I stop it from degrading
my performance?
Thanks :)

Let's check a couple of details?

Can you go to Help, About, in Microsoft Antispyware, and post your:

Program version:

Spyware Definition version:

(for reference, mine are:
1.0.615 (commonly abbreviated as .615)
and 5749 (don't worry about the date.)

Here are the specs...
Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.615
This version expires on: 31/12/2005
Spyware Definition Version: 5751 (01/09/2005 5:38:49 PM)

Hmm - You're on the current code, which has no unusual difficulties in
updating, and you're on the current definitions, so I can't see any reason
why there'd be any updating activity going on.....
I don't have a useful thought at the moment, I'm afraid. Has this behavior
persisted over restarts of Windows?

Yes to the restart question. And, as I said, the odd part
is that this only started about a week ago.
Would it help to uninstall and reinstall Antispyware?
Mark

You might try uninstalling, deleting \program files\microsoft antispyware
and all subfolders (you will lose access to any quarantined items, and all
customized settings)

Then reinstall--be sure you are reinstalling the current build .615.

As did the uninstall/re-install and the problem seems to
have stopped and the application is behaving as it did
originally. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Thanks :)
Mark

That's a strange one, but perhaps one others are not noticing, too...

Hope beta2 arrives before your crossed fingers get too tired!
