Ghost2003 not working.

F

Frank Martin

Suddenly after many successful uses, my
Ghost2003 refuses to work.

It gets a certain distance into the backup
and then stops.

I have been to the Symantec page and they
downloaded some "Live Updates" which did not
help.

Can someone help if I enclose the relevant
"Log File" below, which was generated after
the failure?

Regards, Frank

Ghost not equal to Microsoft.
(In other words - Ghost 2003 is not a Microsoft product - go to the
manufacturer for help with it.)

Frank,]

If you check at Symantec's website I think that you'll find that Ghost 2003
does not work with Windows XP. I believe that you'll find that you need Ghost
9 or Ghost 10 for Windows XP.

It appears to me it's a HD sector problem:
Message: Read sector failure, result = 1,
drive = 0, sectors 33182287 to 33182343

Run the HD's diagnostic utility to check the integrity of the drive.

Before that you can run Symantec's online application scan to see if
there's any problems with Ghost.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I and many of my friends have
been using Ghost 2003 with Windows XP for years. I've made and restored
Windows XP images to disk, cd and dvd and have used the copy function of
Ghost 2003 to make a Windows XP clone disk. It has worked flawlessly.
Here is an excerpt from the Symantec's website, title of the article is
"Introduction to Ghost 2003". Please note the very first feature.

Other new features
a.. Norton Ghost 2003 is Windows XP logo certified.
b.. Ghost 2003 includes support for large drives (over 128 gigabyte).
c.. Ghost 2003 includes support for the Linux EXT3 file system.
d.. Ghost 2003 supports the use of a mapped network drive for cloning
between two computers.
e.. Ghost 2003 provides support for creating a bootable CD that uses PC
DOS rather than MS DOS.
f.. Ghost 2003 includes the utility Ghost Walker.

100% incorrect. I use it without any problem on all of my XP machines, Pro
and Home.

Thank you for correcting me. Sorry for the misinformation.

If you check at Symantec's website I think that you'll find that Ghost
2003
does not work with Windows XP. I believe that you'll find that you need
Ghost
9 or Ghost 10 for Windows XP.

Milt

What I normally think of is looking up the error number and it slipped
by. Thanks for the jolt Harry.

It appears to me it's a HD sector problem:
Message: Read sector failure, result = 1,
drive = 0, sectors 33182287 to 33182343

Run the HD's diagnostic utility to check the integrity of the drive.

Before that you can run Symantec's online application scan to see if
there's any problems with Ghost.

Suddenly after many successful uses, my Ghost2003 refuses to work.

It gets a certain distance into the backup and then stops.

I have been to the Symantec page and they downloaded some "Live Updates"
which did not help.

Can someone help if I enclose the relevant "Log File" below, which was
generated after the failure?

Frank Martin

Many thanks for all replies.

I think I have fixed it by not using the
Norton Disk Doctor.

I used the WindowsXP pro Volume Checking
instead, which is found on
MyComputer/RightClick on
C:drive\Properties\Tool\CheckNow\etc.

This discovered some "Bad Clusters" File
20711 (System~1\Restore~1\RP63\?\-R62E7~1)
which were repaired automatically.

And now the Ghost thing works - at least for
now, and here is the Txt file printout on
successful completion:

Regards, Frank

message
Suddenly after many successful uses, my
Ghost2003 refuses to work.

It gets a certain distance into the backup
and then stops.

I have been to the Symantec page and they
downloaded some "Live Updates" which did
not help.

Can someone help if I enclose the relevant
"Log File" below, which was generated after
the failure?

Regards, Frank

Glad to hear it was sorted by you didn't have to post the log file. All that
did was create a 16KB post. Many people who access this newsgroup are still
forced to use dialup connections and pay by the minute for their
connections. While 16KB seems like nothing to those of us with broadband it
can present a real hit for those who don't. In the future post error codes
then offer to send a file individually to a helper or post it on a website
with a link to download.

Thats because its out of date and not even on Nortons Legacy list.
I have a copy and now am resigned to coughing up another £40 or so and
I live on Benefits.
I find it loathesome that Norton insist on whole product re buys rather
than upgrading present installations. Sorry. I have to watch the
pennies hope you get it sorted.

They did.
Yesterday.
