GHOST IP On the Network ?

Have a 200 plus network configuration. Desk top PC's running XP .Protocol is
TCP/IP.
Two computers called pro-johnm and prod-samy have IP's 172.16.9.16 and
172.16.9.17 and they are active and working fine. Two other computers that
are no longer on our network called extra1 and extra2 ping with the same IP's
as pro-johnm and prod-samy.
What do you think the problem might be please.

Perhaps your dns server is not working right. Some computer somewhere is
furnishing the node names that should no longer exist.

Exactly but ipconfig/flushdns did not help. DNS server somehow is in a loop ? I am still looking to see where it is finding these two ghosted systems.
 
Could be a wireless router, xbox, etc .... some of these entities request an
IP address from DHCP but do not provide a host name back to the server
