Ghost addresses in "From"

I just switched over to Outlook 2002 this weekend. When typing in intended
reciepient's name their address pops up twice; when they receive things from
me, my address also apprears twice behind my name. In both cases, the first
address is contained within brackets; the second within <> signs. How can I
get rid of these ghost addresses? And is there any way possible I can make
it so my (the senders) address is not visible when sending a message?

How did you migrate your Outlook data?
Sounds like something got corrupted.
Did you back it up?

Russ,
I imported using the file-import feature. I did have a backup, but in my
frustration (and hindsight stupidity) I cleared out the list I had imported;
redid the import again via import feture, and then deleted the OE contents.
Since I no longer have a back, and my contact list isn't all that long (maybe
30 people) I wouldn't mind selecting all contacts in the list, deleting them,
and entering them manually. Would you recommend that as my best/only
alternative at this point? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

From what type of file did you import these Contacts? It sounds as if you
did not migrate from an earlier installation of Outlook.
Have you tried to repair your Outlook Data File using the Inbox Repair Tool?

I imported from OE. I attempted to use Repair Tool as you suggested only to
receive "other mail applications are open and must be closed before
continuing." Well, I don't have anything else open as far as I can see--does
that mean something is running in the background somewhere? Is it possible
to just remove the Outlook portion and reinstall it? If so, how does one do
that? If not, what else can I do? Thanks.

Look in Task Manager and see.
Is Outlook running when you try to run scanpst?

When I got the error message I looked in Task Manager to verify nothing was
running. Applications was empty. A lot of items were listed in processes
but when I tried to delete them I was threatened that the stability of my
system was at risk if I continued so did I want to continue? I chose no.
Now what?

Clarify what you're doing and the precise message you get.
Clarify how you migrated your data.
