Hi,
I want to make an image that when restored will be bootable, this is NTFS.
My o/s is in a 2 partition hard disk. If I make an image of just the o/s's
partition and save it to another HD, then restore it, will it install the
boot stuff into the new partition and be ready to go and boot from?

Or, do I have to somehow tell Ghost 2003 to also copy the boot stuff, or
image the
whole HD the o/s partition is on?

Thanks

Ghost 2003 will write directly to a CD (or multiples). I believe it
contains a MBR with boot software. Ghost 2003 can then restore your boot
drive.

I'm saving the Image to another HD. I have a boot 3.5 disk made up by Ghost.
But my question is will the Image restore out into a new partition as
bootable? Can a bootable partition be formed just by backing up the o/s
partition, or do you have to Ghost the whole HD to get the low level boot
files?

The restored image will look exactly like the partition you imaged. It will
contain all the "boot stuff" and you will be ready to go, nothing else needs
to be done. I use Drive Image but it does about the same thing. One thing
I would recommend is that you get a hard drive you can try to restore to,
never hurts to test your backup procedures.

Just a caution for this. Don't let the restored XP see the former XP on the
very first boot. Otherwise, XP won't finish booting.

Yes, I have done this. I backup my system partition to another drive also.
I keep 2-3 images (plus a fresh install image), just in case. As I make
other images, I delete the older ones.
