Hello Groups!

Sorry for crossposting, but i think in this case its appropriate.
I want to replace my old geforce 4 ti 4400 with possibly a 2nd hand
radeon 9700 - - to use all the dx9 features, to get a little bit more
frames and because of the better (is it?) radeon Tv-out.
Do you think its a good time now to change(without spending more than,
say 100 €/$)?

TIA,
orlando

R9700 is a lot faster than Ti4200... And you can play all the present games
with FSAA x4 and AF x8...

Well yes, you will go faster allot! 8 pipelines versus 4, DX9 versus
DX8 and the image quality ati offers. Not a bad deal!

I am (touch wood) swapping my Ti4600 for a R9700. Given all the good
benchmarks on Tomshardware, as well as the ATI's improved FSAA and AF
abilities, I think it'll be worthwhile.

I am still in two minds over whether to risk installing an Arctic Cooling
VGA doodad.

i upgraded to a Radeon 9700 pro from my Ti4600 and ive never looked back, I
also installed the artic cooler and it helped overclock the core by 50mhz.

Yes you can as long as you don't mind low framerates. My 9800pro/xp3200
system can't play all games with those settings without slowing down too
much, and the 9700 is a fair step down even if it's the pro... and I wonder
what cpu he has. I'm talking about 1024 resolution btw...
And have you ever hear of Far Cry?
As for TV-out, the ATI is excellent for that. And at least the OP knows
enough to expect only a few more frames.

I didn't see < 50 FPS on my sold today :) R9700 Pro (380/340 MHz) with AMD
Athlon FX 53 CPU....

But it's a lot faster than Ti4200... It's the main question which was posted
by Orlando.

I talk about 1024 too. ;)

Yeah.... I just played FC @ 1024x768 and FSAA x4 AF x8 with maximum details.
I didn't see any performance drops below 40 FPS.

It's excelent but I'd like to use NVIDIA TV Out solution.

Few? :) Maybe should I post some benchmarks from Ti4200 and R9700 ? :)

Removing the oem sink/fan and installing the the artic cooler took
about 10 minutes...just be careful squeezing the pins on the old
cooler to make sure you do not damage components on the board....
IT IS A VERY WORTHWHILE MOD IMHO!

The Radeon 9700 is NOT DX9 capable. The 9800 is DX9 capable.

Goddamn man!.. pull your head out of your ass and READ!

You must be just trying to misinform people for some weird agenda.

I give up.

Deliberate troll or complete moron. Either way it's not worth the effort.

The problem is, he's constantly misinforming people who don't know
he's a nutter. :-(

I did a similar upgrade to you (the original poster), I went from a gf4
ti4600 to a radeon 9800 pro. The radeon was a LOT faster, but I'm getting
rid of it due to poor support/too many driver bugs for my liking. It's a
shame because the card was very nice and fast.

Thank you & and the others for the infos! Are those bugs still an
issue, ore are they solved with the newer drivers?

I've had no problems with buggy drivers from ATI or Omega for that
matter. Its most likey a wonky install or some other issue that makes
people think the drivers are bad. Don't worry about drivers being
bad.. worry if you don't read the readme file. ;)

Ps.. ATI is now updating their drivers monthly.

Ive never had a problem with drivers on my 9700pro, always works like a
charm for me.

Yup, I use the ati drivers ( always on clean systems ) and no
problems... and if there are problems..it's not in the drivers....

I upgraded sometime ago from a ti4400 to a 9700pro. The swap over went fine,
no driver problems and it is an awsome card.
