I am getting my new computer this week. It will have XP Home loaded on it.
First I will install my firewall and antivirus software. Then I will go
online and download SP2, if it's not already loaded.

Then I will be installing stuff like, Adaware, Spyblaster, Spybot,
ScanDefrag, Foxfire, Adobe Acrobat Reader, etc.

My question is....will XP automatically create restore points after each
installation? I have ME now but my System Restore never worked right. Also,
am I correct that I don't need TweakUI for XP?

Thanks for your help.

You may not *need* TweakUI for Windows XP as there is nothing that is
essential in it, but you may find it useful, as it does allow some
adjustments to the default settings in Windows XP that are difficult
to change otherwise.

Try it. You might just like it. But you don't have to use it.

Good luck

It normally creates them once a day.

Nobody *needs* TweakUI, neither the one for XP nor any previous
version. TweakUI does nothing that can't be done without it.
However TweakUI is a useful tool which lets you make many common
registry edits more easily and more safely than without it. For
that reason, I recommend that you get and use it when you can.

_____________
thanks everyone.

Is there an obvious way for me to disable the XP firewall. I prefer to use
the one I have (PCcillin). I would be afraid they may conflict.

Bonnie,
SP2 adds a new Icon called Security Center to the Control Panel
[Start/Control Panel/Security Center]. Open that up and you will see (at
the bottom) something like "Manage security settings: Windows Firewall".
Open that, and you can easily turn the thing off. Never run two
Firewalls at the same time.
