Getting Vista if XP bought January 2007...

My mother's hard drive crashed in January and she didn't have a Windows CD,
so we had to purchase a copy of XP Home Edition at Staples to get her system
going again. While we were purchasing, the salesman indicated that since we
bought XP in January, we could get a free upgrade to Vista. Is there a link
on the Microsoft website that gives instructions on this?

Staples would need to provide a coupon for this. This is the first time I
have heard of a store providing an upgrade option for Vista, the computer
makers like Dell, HP, etc were doing this when purchasing a new system and
providing coupons. If Staples did not provide instructions on how to go
about getting the new OS, then you need to contact Staples for information
on this.

No, I hadn't seen that offer. It's possible this is what Dan is looking for.

Thanks

Several retailers (as well as OEMs) have been offering upgrade coupons since
before the 1st of the year, Ronnie. It's surprising a guy like you has failed
to spot them by now.
