When installing new hardware i.e. printer, camera, card etc, WXP doesn't
prompt me to go online and get the latest drivers.I only get the option to
use a CD or search a specific location.

My laptop used to ask me that before, but I don't know when it stopped.

Anybody knows how can I get WXp to prompt and get drivers from Windows
udpate?

PS.- I am connected to the internet through all the process, I checked
MSN's knowledge base and this was the only hint I could get...

Thank you very much

start/run, type:
devmgmt.msc
doubleclick device, driver tab, "update driver' button, when asked to search
win update, put the dot in 'yes, and every time i..."

Getting Drivers from winupdate is about the last place you want to obtain
them from, particularly if a Laptop

I second this!!!!!!

1) Windows Updates do not have the latest drivers (out dated.)
2) Can casue your XP to crash horribly.
3) Sometimes the drivers are for the wrong device / manufacturer.

Thank you all!!
I am up and running now, also I thank you for the advice not to use drivers
from web!!
A beer to every one!!

It's not that you shouldn't install drivers from the web,its that you
shouldn.t install drivers from windows update!.
There is nothing wrong with installing the lastest drivers from the mfg's
website infact you could download them before you connect the new hardware.

Yeah!!! Microsoft does not make a lot of the hardware we use in PC.
Unless you are using mouse or keyboards made by Microsoft, I would
never rely on drivers posted by Microsoft.
