Getting unable to open default email message

I'm simply trying to install Outlook 2000 for the first time on this computer
in order to use the Calendar and Contacts. I'm not interested in using
Outlook Express. AOL is the default email for this computer.

I get the "unable to open your default email folders. The information store
could not be opened." So I press the OK button and get "Would you like to
open your default file system folder instead." I press Yes since No stops
the process. So then I'm looking at the Windows Explorer version of my
computer. I can't do anything to install Outlook.

The prior response to this message on the forum refers to email and thus is
not the answer for my dilemma. Please help.

Thank you very much.

Look in Help | About Microsoft Outlook and tell us whether it says Corporate/Workgroup or Internet Mail Only or No Email.

Open Control Panel's Mail applet and create an Internet Mail account first
before setting up the AOL account. Outlook needs a set of default folders
before it will open properly; The AOL folders cannot be your default
folders because AOL accounts must be set up as IMAP accounts.

Thanks but the AOL account was set up years ago. I'm not interested in
using Outlook for Internet mail so I'm confused about why I should set up an
Internet mail account. It turns out that I can log onto my company's
Outlook through the web. Would that impact this situation? Thanks for your
help, I'm still baffled.

Not in Outlook, I'd wager.

You need a set of folders other than the IMAP folders to be your default
folders. Add a Personal Folders service to Outlook and designate it as the
delivery location.
