I use Windows XP. I have a shortcut to WORD on the
desktop. When I click the shortcut, the Word Program
loads, and presents me with a blank page for writing.

When I click OPEN under FILE, I'm taken to what XP
considers to be "My Documents", and shows me "My
Pictures", "My Webs", and "My ebooks". What I really
want in my WORD files so I can access them.

To get to my files I have to click the My Documents down
arrow to expand what's in XP's opinion of My Documents,
then click "local drive C", then double click "My
Documents" to arrive at the folders that contain the WORD
documents I want to use.

MY QUESTION: What do I need to do to be taken directly
to my word processing folders so I can access my
information, rather than going through the steps outlined
above to get me where I want to be?

Thanks for yoour help!!

Bruce,

Go to Tools>Options>File Locations. Select Documents and then click modify.
Navigate to your Word Documents directory, select it, and then check OK.

"Tools", "Options", "File Locations", select the "Documents" option. Click
the "Modify" button and browse to your desired folder to set it as the path.

By the way, you can also create a shortcut on your desktop to your folder,
then all you have to do is double-click on the folder and double-click on a
file of your choice. To do this, right-click an open area of your desktop,
select "New", "Shortcut", browse to your folder and click on it to select
it, click "OK" to get out accepting the defaults. Now you have a folder to
your word-processing files.

Hope one of these two ideas work for you!

To add to what Greg and Bob have said, if you have Word 2002 and above, in
addition to setting the default folder for Word to open in, you can add this
folder to the Places Bar so that it's always just one click away even if
you've navigated deep into subfolders to open or save documents. See

Where in Texas? My #1 client is in Dallas, I have relatives in Houston and
San Antonio, and my daughter was in Austin for two years getting a master's
(and in El Paso for a year before that). Looks like TXU's HQ is in Dallas.
Is that where you are?

Presently working on a contract at the nuclear power plant in Glen Rose, TX
(south of Dallas/Ft. Worth). I was born outside Austin (Taylor) and raised
in San Antonio (school at Alomo Heights) so Texa is home. We are based out
of a town close to this plant so whenever Brenda and I are not travelling,
this is home!

Are you knowledgeable about nuclear power plants? If so, my Dallas client
might be interested in consulting you.

Yes, I train operators to get a license to operate the Control Room
equipment at nuclear power plants. Feel free to drop me a note (off-line).

Thanks!
