getting tired of time spent choosing an AV product

So, as I reported here recently, I couldn't get McAfee to install on a new
Dell with Vista. I then downloaded MS OneCare which installed nicely but
then I read the terrible reviews. Now I'm trying to decide what to do next-
in particular, if any other AV products have trouble installing in Vista.

How about Norton? Does it install OK? I had it several years ago and found
it to be a "control freak" and dumped it for McAfee.

PS: somebody should attempt to calculate the cost to all of us due to the
lunatics who create virus and other threats to our computers- and I'm still
waiting to see some of these characters strung up- a good hanging or two
might discourage them.

How about Kaspersky Anti Virus (KAV)? Just about the best AV product on
the market. I don't have Vista myself but I believe it is compatible
with Vista.

AVG runs fine on Vista, Free or paid Version

There is a facet of personal preference to AV selection once you home in on
2 or 3 candidates. Personally, after being a Norton cheerleader I have since
licensed our 3 PC (Vista) home network for 2 years with NOD 32 by Eset. Here
is a download link for the 30 day fully functional trial of NOD 32 for home
users. It has played flawlessly here on all 3 of our Vista PC's

I saw Kasperksy in a Best Buy but it was for a single PC, not a 3 PC
license- though they probably offer it on their web site.

Yes, I found that by uninstalling Norton Internet Security 2007, all 3 of
our networked PC's performed more speedily.
I then installed NOD 32 on all 3 PC's and they did not show. to my
experience, any of the performance slowdowns I saw with NIS 2007.

Yes, they do multi-machine deals. KAV has a light footprint and does
not seem to slow down my PC. Also, you get superb support from the
Kaspersky Forum, which is a great plus point.

I will never load NAV on any computer of mine. I use and recommend NOD32.
