many many thanks in advance for your expertise

And Microsoft Works can read/write Microsoft Word documents, no problem.

File Save/As to create. File/Open to read.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Was it a Word or Works doc you sent? If Works file, odd's are they
didn't even bother trying since it didn't have a DOC extension. Do a
file/save as Word DOC file and test it with a friend's copy of Word.

If a Word Doc you sent (and did you test it on Word), then maybe it
simply got corrupted on the way.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

what it was, was my old MS Word 2000 files put onto my new system with Works 7 only (only options to save docs in are RTF, Txt Doc, Txt Doc (MS-dos), or unicode, so must assume they saw works attachment code (.wks or something) as unfamiliar, therefore a virus threat or something (at firewall level)
i've sent it back with simple 'to open' instructions, so hopefully they'll take a chance and open the damn thing

i will come back if any progress is made

My Works 7 has a long list of File/Save as, including 7 versions of Word
(mac and windows/dos). Maybe you simply have some features in Works not
installed? I can't remember as it was a very long time ago I installed
Works. Did out your CD and try to install the options for Word DOC files.

Surely if you send it as RTF File, they will be able to open.

I'm led to believe that people receiving CV's are picky about file
formats and if they don't look and taste like Microsoft Word, they don't
bother...

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

There areoptions during Works7 install to install different readers and
converters. You probably don't have them installed as Rob said.

MS Word can open and view Works DOC's with no problem at all.

Yes and no, I have an old version of Office with Word 97. It does NOT
install the Works converters by default, they must be added either
during installation or later. I don't know about later versions of
Word but it's possible the converters were not installed?

Your right. And no it doesn't do it by default in the newer versions of
Office either.
You do have to opt to install the filters and converters.
