Getting rid of "Window's Picture & Fax Viewer"

Is it possible to uninstall this without major problems? It keeps taking
over my viewing settings of all my image files. I have ACDSee 6.0
installed, and in the file associations (File Types) listing, it indicates
that the files are ACDSee files, and that they should be opening with
ACDSee, but they still open with that damn Windows Picture Viewer...

According to the file associations, the "Default" action is to "Open with
ACDSee". I have verified that the action points to the correct program
(ACDSee.exe) for opening. Everything is correct. Why then, when I click on
an image file, (.jpg for instance) do they keep opening up in Picture
Viewer? Well, my first guess would be that when I right-click on the file,
it indicates that "Preview" is the default action, NOT "Open with ACDSee",
even though in the File Associations it says that the later is in fact
supposed to be the default...

How can I prevent WP&FV from opening anything? As far as I'm concerned, it
can just disappear, as I will never use it. I don't see an option anywhere
to uninstall, or even disable it. Any help appreciated with this problem...

Change the file associations by right clicking on the file (.JPG for
example) and clicking Open With>Choose Program...
now select your program from the list, or click Browse and find it. Before
you click OK, ensure that you have checked the box that says "Always Use
this program for opening this kind of file".

There isn't a way to actually remove it as such, but there is a way to
hide/replace it (a registry edit I think)...one of the MVP's will probably
tell you how.

Delete Picture and Fax Viewer
If you find the default Picture and Fax Viewer more of an
annoyance than a help, it can be removed as follows:

[Start] [Run] type regedit.exe and click [OK]
Navigate to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/SystemFileAssociations/image/ShellEx /Con
textMenuHandlers
Delete the Folder ShellImagePreview under
ContextMenuHandlers

If you change your mind and want to restore the Picture
and Fax Viewer

Create the ShellImagePreview folder and create the String
Value (Default)
Assign it the value {e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}
