how to disable system restore in windows vista 32?
this system restore is useless. when i do system restore, the computer
got even worst and it becomes a painful and frustrating experience -\
it is totally useless

You can go to the Control Panel > System > System Protection on the left
pane > and uncheck the disk under Automatic restore points. It will ask if
you are sure. Say yes, and the System Restore feature is disabled.

I couldn't agree more. I've never had system restore do anything substantial
for me. I often debate whether I should even leave it turned on. Probably
not. If I ever had anything major go wrong, I would be better off doing a
reformat anyway.

Type "System Restore" into the search box, click on "open System
Protection" link and uncheck the hard drive containing your %systemroot%
directory.
this system restore is useless.

Just because you can't figure out how to use it doesn't mean it's
useless.

That can happen, it all depends on what you're trying to restore, and
why. Conversely, under certain circumstances it can be a virtual
life-saver, especially when it comes to rolling back driver updates.

In XP, I'd more or less have agreed with you (or at least it wasn't
reliable enough for my tastes, the few times I had occasion to use it, I
ended up having to manually remove the unwanted drivers anyway), but in
Vista, I've had much better luck.

I might append my earlier post by saying my less-than-satisfying experience
with system restore has all been in Windows XP. I'm a newbie to Vista, so
perhaps system restore works better in it.

sorry buddy - been dealing with SR from Windows XP and its all frustrations -
computer getting worst

you're correct - that's what i do now instead of fooling around with system
restore that gives always headache

how can it be a virtual life-saver if one gets nothinbg but headaches and
frustrations. even Bill do not have solutions for the SR problems.

So you choose to bitch about it rather than posting whatever problem you're
having with it. Interesting approach.

thanks Dustin...

SR was bad in XP. If you did a restore, within a month you would be getting
increasing errors. By 2 months, you formatted!!

You've ranted a lot about how bad SR is and said that there are problems,
but you neglected to mention any of the problems?

It can be a virtual life-saver because it does solve certain problems
very consistently.

What problem were you trying to solve? What went wrong?

XP or Vista - the SR is a useless program - it's makes the system even worst
- i share your frustrations

Not at all true. It's gotten me, and several others I know, out of
serious trouble several times.

Does it have weaknesses? Sure. Could it be better? Sure. But that's
far from saying it's useless.

System restore has not worked for me either. Just says it is "unsuccessful".
Does anyone know how to get it working because I would like to use it in
some cases. And can someone also chime in on how you "reformat"?
