Getting Rid of Outlook Express in Default Profile

When configuring a profile to be copied over the original Default User
profile for a RIS image, I delete Outlook Express shortcuts from the Quick
Launch and Program menu. I have also deleted Outlook Express shortcuts from
the All Users and original Default User profiles.

But when a user signs on, that new profile generated has Outlook Express
appearing again. I would like to permanently discard it. Any ideas?

Thanks, but it doesn't work for me. We use Outlook in an Exchange
environment and after completing the steps within the KB article, Outlook
2002 would not run.

An error message popped stating that "Outlook requires Outlook Express 4.01
or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from
the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows Update Website."

Yes it uses OE for the news client. Why not put something in a logon script
that checks for the existence of the shortcuts and deletes them.

Yeah, there's actually an option in the IEAK to get rid of the
shortcuts, but Microsoft software is very inter-dependent and before
long the shortcuts would probably come back, and even if they didn't it
would not stop someone using OE if they really wanted to.

This is how I do it
Run Regedit and delete the following Registry Key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}\Stubpath

To remove Internet Connection Wizard Shortcuts
Run Regedt32
1.Click the HKEY_USERS dialog box, click Load Hive on the Registry
menu, click the "Documents and Settings\Default User\Ntuser.dat" file,
and then name the key Test.
2.View the following registry key:
HKEY_USERS\Test\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce

Remove "^SetupICWDesktop : REG_SZ : C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\Connection Wizard\icwconn1.exe /desktop".

Remember its Regedt32 not regedit in Windows 2000 to load/unload hives

Hope that helps.

Cheers
